Huge congratulations to Betti & Knut architects for designing and manufacturing a firesafe, air-tight but extremely well-ventilated timber classroom.

The initial focus was to protect students from smoke inhalation after devastating bushfires, however it is also expected to keep occupants safer from transmission of airborne COVID-19.

Demand for non-combustible rigid insulation in the education sector is on the rise and BLUECHIP was pleased to meet stringent quality requirements of this project with our IROCK non-combustible rigid insulation. IROCK is ideal for cavity walls, external walls and ceiling applications requiring high levels of fire safety and thermal performance.

When the School, based in NSW, ordered three Passivhaus classrooms they were considering how the good ventilation would offset bushfire smoke, after fires ravaged the area two years ago.

The school’s general manager, said that although the buildings were ordered before COVID struck, “now we will reap the benefits that we will have good ventilation in those new buildings, and I believe every building going forward will follow the same design principle.”

Well ventilated schools will not only reduce the airborne transmission of COVID, but it has also been proven that lower carbon dioxide levels make concentrating and learning easier for students. Built with IROCK’s high performing non-combustible rigid insulation, there’s never been a safer and more comfortable school.
