People in the Barwon South West region in Victoria will soon have more mental health support closer to home, with construction underway on the new McKellar Centre Acute Mental Health Unit. The Geelong facility will provide 16 acute mental health beds and community-based care from a contemporary, safe and high-quality hospital setting.

The McKellar Centre site provides a new opportunity for adults who need complementary access to rehabilitation and other healthcare services to support their care. There will be several internal courtyards, as well as enclosed garden areas, which will provide a secure area for patients and staff to enjoy greenery and fresh air.

This project is scheduled for completion currently in late 2022 and is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to deliver four new acute mental health facilities in Melbourne and Geelong. Once complete, the new 16-bed mental health facility will provide more than 5,800 days of care, enabling an estimated 355 more Geelong locals to access vital mental health services every year.

BLUECHIP were proud to supply the TRAXION decking for this project. The patented technology creates a fibre-like structure inside the material, similar to wood, giving it unmatched strength and the lightweight boards are easy-to-handle on the job site. Quite simply, TRAXION is the best decking material on the market today.
